Negros Occidental Tourism Division held a Tour Guiding Training Course at the Negros First Negosyo Center in Bacolod City over the weekend. The training course on tour guiding is placed to discuss the need for more Department of Tourism (DOT)-accredited tour guides in the region.
The training was launched by the Negros Occidental Tourism Division with the help of DOT- Western Visayas, and Tourism Educators and Movers Philippines-Western Visayas.
Cristine Mansinares, provincial supervising tourism operations officer, said tour guides act as delegates of the province and perform a vital role in securing tourist satisfaction.
The 23-day training course will be carried out every weekend until June 2 this year to support professionals who have commitments on Mondays to Fridays.
The 27 participants are formed by graduating college students, retired professionals, artists, and even medical doctors, among others.
Familiarization tours, fieldwork, and researches are also incorporated in the module which the participants should pass in order to successfully finish the course.
They are only given up to two absences. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion from the three partnering organizations.
“Tour guides allow tourists to make their experience more memorable and informative,” she said, adding that “they also enable tourists to love more Negros Occidental as a destination.”
