DENR closes a part of Manila Bay for rehabilitation

A portion of Manila Bay gets shut down on Wednesday to stop sightseers from swimming into the heavily polluted waters after its the clean-up.

Authorities are closing down the complete stretch of the Baywalk in Roxas Boulevard, from the US Embassy to Manila Yacht Club using orange plastic barriers. The barriers shall mark the boundary for tourists who still want to enjoy the Manila Bay sunset.

Additional warning signs against swimming in the bay were also put up.

The bay’s clean-up, which experts said could take years and is estimated to cost P47 billion, came after Boracay island underwent a 6-month rehabilitation.
